Space Punk or Inq28 Henchman Sculpt

Been busy working away on another sculpt since the last post. And played an AoS game. And been thinking about painting styles. I can show pictures of the first two but nothing has coalesced into coherent thoughts for the last yet.

So pictures;
The armature for the latest model.

The base putty.

Blocking out the legs.

Upper body and gun. Kinda rough here.

With a face now.

Ah, now for the getting of cool and the 40k vibe. Visor and first shoulder pad. I'm pleased with the pads. They look like something straight out of the Inquisitor rule book.

And this is where I was at with him as of last night. He just needs a bake before doing the hands and a few other small details.

Now a couple of in game pictures. Many of you may not like AoS but I'm enjoying it.
I played Dean's orcs and goblins using one of the South Coast GT scenarios and managed to pull a draw from certain victory with one bad roll. Sigh. Such is life.

This is now happening:

And finally a quick size comparison for Kraut Scientist:

Bloodsecrator

This is a great model and I enjoyed painting it. All of the miniatures from the AoS box is just outstanding and I'm looking forward to working every last one.

Though, before I start on any other khornites I've something else in mind... More very soon.

More Blood. And A Battle.

Working on the Bloodsecrator. Not much to see but I'm happy so far.

They are such great models that it doesn't take much for them to look fantastic. The biggest problem I've had with this one is the skin. I've gone for a pale translucent look with a glaze of 2:3 Rhinoxhide:blue and then some ogryn flesh to give it a living blush and some depth.

I also got in another game of AoS.

My warriors of chaos against an all mounted Aelf force. We played a scenario from the first big book with a kill 'em all victory condition and in the end, after five or six turns, we called it a draw. Though in my mind the Aelfs had the moral high ground.

Things I learned from this game;

-- Kill 'em all victory conditions can lead to dull games.

-- Dragon ogres are a tar pit unit. They can soak up damage but don't put out that much in return. In the future I'll be trying to support them with something super killy; not sure what it will be yet!

-- Ellyrian Reavers are great. The ability to move, shoot then flee is fantastic. Chaos marauder horsemen have this same ability and I have a box of them in my stash...

-- Synergies are king. In this game I just took what was new. Next time I'll put more thought into how the units will work together.

I also aquired this wonderful new thing-- the clean new sprues, not the beer, I understand that's been around for a while. Two internet gold stars to anybody that can identify it. Hint: maggots!

'Til next time.

BLOOD!

The AoS Blood Warriors are finished. I may put some grass on their bases if/when I Dull Coat them. I've not done it yet because I'm worried that it'll ruin the gold by flattening it out too much. That new Retributor Gold paint is great!

That's it. I'll let the models talk for them selves; no wall of text this week! Feel free to comment/ask questions. Thanks.

Chaos Dwarfs

The chaos dwarfs are done. Damn pleased how these turned out. Sadly, they are very hard to get a good picture of.

The purple in the shades really makes the armour pop. The red runes add some extra interest on models that could have been too dark.

Sargon The Magnificant. A more spiteful and vile creature can not be found anywhere in the Mortal Realms.

AoS has meant that I don't need to do a whole army of these; they'll just slot into my existing Chaos army and support what I do going forward.

Speaking of going forward.
I've made a start on the core box's Blood Warriors.

I'm going for the classic studio look for the red with the idea of dirtying it up after its all done. They are incredible models.

Winter Of Discontent

It's spring and my winter hobby freeze is beginning to thaw. Mainly I just had nothing worth blogging or things stalled half way through.

This is where this fellow stalled. I am not happy with the claw and he needs a 32mm base. I've put him aside for now.

Next, I began work on an Epic Eldar army, with the all but finished Blood Angels force, I hope to play some Space Marine Second Edition with.

A company of Falcons and one of Guardians.

I've pinned the grav-tanks so that they look like they are flying once fixed to bases.

I air brushed on a coat of yellow and then gloss.

And then gave them a wash of oil paint for that old-school panel line look. This is where these stalled. The first reason is that the oil paint took ages to dry enough before I was confident to lay a matt coat over the top in preparation for doing the details. The second reason is:

The Age Of Sigmar!

Goldie here was the only model that I managed to paint since the last post.

Age of Sigmar has certainly made one hell of noise in our quiet hobby world. So much hate poured onto the Internet. It's been quite extrodanary and, if I'm honest, quite off putting. On more than one occasion I've thought about going on a long, long online holiday and leaving all the anger and stupidity behind.

The up shot of this is that AoS fits our little group very well. We've been playing it and enjoying it. After three games  I'm starting to see it as a subtle little game that has given us the freedom to do whatever we want with hobby and models. It's also brought all sorts of half finished projects out of cupboards and sparked many more future plans. All great things in my mind!

My forces of chaos fighting my dwarfs in our first game. Lesson: synergies are king!

Warriors of Chaos v a loose coalition of Aelfs, Free Men and Stormcast. Lessons: Chaos Chosen are mighty. Synergies are the king of kings.

Warriors of chaos with chaos dwarf allies v Aelfs. Lesson: princes on dragons are crazy good and should be targeted with anything that deals out mortal wounds ASAP. Numbers do eventually show in combat.

All this gaming led to me putting together the khorne half of the new starter set. It was a few weeks of work during the darkest days of winter. Trulely some fantastic models!

And since then to this;
I've made good progress on these evil little bastards and will post some more WIP shots as I go.

I'm also thinking about re-basing some of my chaos army. Round bases just look better. I don't know why but they do! It'll be a painful job so I'm putting it off.

That's it. Hopefully spring will be more fruitful hobby-wise than winter!
