Space Punk or Inq28 Henchman Sculpt

Been busy working away on another sculpt since the last post. And played an AoS game. And been thinking about painting styles. I can show pictures of the first two but nothing has coalesced into coherent thoughts for the last yet.

So pictures;
The armature for the latest model.

The base putty.

Blocking out the legs.

Upper body and gun. Kinda rough here.

With a face now.

Ah, now for the getting of cool and the 40k vibe. Visor and first shoulder pad. I'm pleased with the pads. They look like something straight out of the Inquisitor rule book.

And this is where I was at with him as of last night. He just needs a bake before doing the hands and a few other small details.

Now a couple of in game pictures. Many of you may not like AoS but I'm enjoying it.
I played Dean's orcs and goblins using one of the South Coast GT scenarios and managed to pull a draw from certain victory with one bad roll. Sigh. Such is life.

This is now happening:

And finally a quick size comparison for Kraut Scientist:

Into The Void

I've been humming that riff as I finished the space captain sculpt.

I'm happy with the results. He isn't the most dynamic model but he does have the right stern, commanding feel.

Out of nowhere in the last week I've also been working on another chaos cultist chosen.
I couldn't not sculpt some of it, could I?

And, as a short break from the sculpting tools, I've started painting it. More pictures as soon as it's done.

In The Navy

So real life has been very busy again and as a result my hobby time has been restricted. I have made some progress but it never seems like enough. Though, even if I was hobbying full time it would still never be enough. There are just too many things I'd like to do and make. It not a bad problem to have really.

The Rogue Trader trooper is completed, and next to the '80s plastic looks pretty great, if I do say so myself. If I were to make it again I'd add more small details like pockets, techno gubbins and badges for extra visual interest. And I'd make him beefier. Next to the old trooper he looks thin and weedy and while you could argue the new one is more realistically proportioned it is not the GW style that I was going for.

On to the next sculpt now with some WIPs.

And here he is as of last night.
Ready for the first bake before I start adding details like rank badges, lanyards and the like. I know I said that it would be a Rogue Trader but I was seduced by Jes Goodwin's Imperial Navy crew sketches. He feels like art from Batllefleet Gothic so I am well pleased.

Oh, and how about those Deathwatch and 'Stealer hybrids. WOW!!

Imperial Trooper Finished

Not much to say really.
He is done bar baking and eyes. I think that he may be too simple, that there isn't enough detail to make for a interesting miniature. I suspect with a good paint job that would change, but it's a lesson for the future.

And I've started on the next one too. At this point I'm thinking it will be an arrogant rogue trader. This subject to change however. Suggestions always welcome.

I took some time off sculpting last week to refurbish some old terrain and also flock a new 6'x4'

I have also been playing around with camera settings again. Not bad, IMO.  ;-)

Imperial Army Trooper

This is based on concept art in Rogue Trader (p163, if you've got a copy) It's got a fantastic '80s Dredd or Strontium Dog feel. I'm working on the helmet now and the off hand will be a power glove. The helmet needs more work with bigger ear muffs and some bulking out around the forehead. At the moment it's shape is a little too Buck Rogers and without the earpieces he looks as if he is wearing a watermelon!

And a few progress shots.

Furious Northman Completed

I did the final bake on this bloke last night. I'm pretty happy with his musculature but the pose isn't right. It's too static and looks awkward. With the next sculpt -- in about a third of the way done so pictures soon-- I've played more attention to the armature and it is much better.

I feel like I'm beginning to get the feel for this sculpting game and have good idea of where and how to improve. I just need to make many, many more models to sharpen my skills. Stay tuned for more :-)

Finished sculpt: Necromunda Orlock

I'm happy with him. He isn't perfect but he is just about the best that I can do right now. I think I can get better. I'm going to try to get better.

I've started the next miniature.
It is mostly an anatomy study but I think I'll give him an axe and shield and call him a half naked Viking berserker.

Whole Miniature Sculpt: Part 6

Almost there! It's feeling like a marathon of fine details now.

Not much to go --eyes and some details-- and he is all done. I'll up date again when it is all finished with more and better pictures.

Whole Miniature Sculpt: Part 5

It's slow progress at the moment. Yesterday, after a week is slow work defining and sharpening details, I did the first bake. Half-an-hour at 110 C and it was all done. Last night I began adding details and making the loin cloth more dynamic. Most of the details are unfinished sketches so I can see what looks good and what doesn't.

So it's more details, the hands and eyes before finishing sometime this week (I hope)
