More Yaktribe goodness and a red mechanic

A little more work on my Yaktribe entry this week, mainly on Little Smiley the Ogryn and Mr Verkehr of the South Sump Syndicate.

When last you saw these two, they werent accompanied by the gentleman with the rather long rifle, but they had something much like this lack of all things resonably pigment related.

Little Smiley then got a bit of a going over in the basecoat department, his colours were quite limited and rather plain, showing his lowly station and simple nature.

Soon enough he got a snazzy hair color and some shading to his clothing, this stage was my favorite.

Here, i think I made a mistake. I personally think I took him too dark. Not 100% sure, but I may strip him and start again.

Next up is Verkehr. Hes a really plan and unassuming looking bloke, his uniform was really simple and I just wanted something easy to recognise in the masses of the underhive.

The "S" in the cog will be the symbol for the Syndicate.

Started washing him here, he looks a lilittle better with some definition in the face I think.
And here he is a bit later on, chilling with my new and improved Skitarii maniple leader Metalus Octus.

There is still a lot of detailing to do on them all, but I think it's a good start so far.

Also, here is another shot of that fellow from earlier with the rather long rifle. and a friend for him.

These will be the final 2 for the protective detail, unless I have a heap of time left before the end of the month and can add some more to the group. He is a FW renegade guardsman torso, some guard bits and a rifle from the beautiful new Skitarii kit. If you don't have at least one box of these yet, GET ONE RIGHT NOW!!!!! There are so many cool bits and pieces in that kit, the heads alone are worth their weight in precious, precious Unobtainium.

So, there's lots more to do, but it's coming along.
THere are already a bunch of awesome entries showing up, so if you haven't checked Yaktribe out yet, GET ON IT!!!

Until next time, keep on keepin on.

YAKTRIBE COMPETITION 7 "HOUSE OF CARDS"

If you haven't ever seen Yaktribe, you're missing out on what I think is the most comprehensive Necromunda resource on the entirety of the world wide webs. It's a great community with a constant stream of new resources and plenty of juicy new minis and project logs.

So I finally decided to get off my butt and enter one of these competitions i am always seeing and the entry requirements are as follows.

Build a group with at least two members of a Noble House, Brats, Servants or a Lord for Necromunda... A Made Ork, who earned his place on the hulk for Gorkamorka... or an equivalent for Mordheim - Mayor, Knight!

Plainly speaking people from The Spire or Royalty, members of a Noble House - a Lord or Lady and his / her servant or counselor. An aristocratic Hunting Party, a Trader and his retinue, something like that. Someone powerful. Something we normally don't see in our games (apart from NPCs) but wish our leaders might become.
Traders and Guilders with their retinue are also great examples.

So I decided that a cool idea is a Necromunda style bike messenger, without the bike.
Now the underhive is a pretty rough place, you know, with the constant risk of being shot in the face, so I think he might need some muscle.

I present to you, the beginnings of my underhive delivery company, The South Sump Syndicate.

Update on the muddied ruins.

Nothing too big, just a quick photo update from me today.
Gone and started the paint job and I tell you what, Army Painter leather brown is BRILLIANT for a muddy base.
Not to mention I was able to spray a base coat on a squad of Beastmen Gors at the same time!

It was pretty simple for me here, a black base coat over the whole lot, the leather brown over the muddy aresa and a really thinned down coat of Codex Grey over the building.
The mud received a drybrush of the GW ochre and then followed by a thick drybrush of bleached bone.

The building itself got a thick drybrush of Administratum Grey and then a 50/50 mix of Administratum grey and skull white.
A quick layer of blood red on the Mechanicus cogs and some skull white and leadbelcher on the skull itself. I'll deal with those fiddly wires and details this week.
I also picked out the rubble on the ground with a few quick dabs of the greys, but they all need a lot more work.

But the worst thing about all of this? I snapped the damn sigh I had in the "courtyard" and a bloody Ork is running around....

I named him Larry.

Hope y'all enjoy the update!

Building a battleground. For the glory of The Mire.

Whats going on guys and gals?

I have recently got my butt back into gear and started digging away at the mass of delicious terrain bits and bobs that I have accumulated over the last decade or so of my hobby career and have decided to revive an old project idea of mine that got thrown onto the backburner a while ago.

It all started when some buddies and I got involved with a Necromunda campaign. Now anyone who has played this glorious specialist game before knows just how much of an emotional rollercoaster this game can be. I remember the legitimate fear i felt when I had to roll injuries, the true heartache of losing my first ganger to overwhelming gunfire from an evil pack of Escher and the utter horror I felt when I lost my favorite heavy to the monster in the dark. ( I mean COME ON!!! I had to roll 6 and then 6, that's RIDICULOUS!!)

But the thing I loved most about the campaign was the tables we had set up, I mean it was ALL TERRAIN! The bridges, the barricades and hiding places, by the gods it was glorious.

Look at them, lots of fun terrain right there, but the thing that killed me, none of the stuff that is painted is mine. EL TERRIBLE! Just say that in a bad Spanish accent and you'll know how I felt.

So I have pulled out my bits and sourced as much advice as I can, either via mates in the hobby, some of the awesome plogs on the net and various websites, not to mention the AMAZING work by some of the INQ28 guys throughout the world.

Thats what I am working with at the moment, I gotta admit, it's a lot of inspiration and heartache, but I gotta get through it.

So here is the plan, I wanna get a 4x4 table done by the end of this. For Necromunda and a bit of INQ28 if I me and the boys get the chance. It could probably work for 40k, but I'm not expecting that vehicles would have a very easy time getting around the table in my mind. I plan on doing it 1x1 at a time, a buddy of mine cut up a mess of MDF panels for me, and these things are EXACT!

SO here is a few shots of the piece I have started so far, it's not too much at the moment, but give it a lick of paint and a wash here and there and I reckon I might have something I can play with!

So any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated and I hope to get some action regarding the painting of this bad boy soon!

Thanks guys.

If I were my girlfriend, I would hate my hobby too.

By the power of Greyskull, it has been far too darn long since I have had a chance to slap some plastic together and even longer since i last painted anything.

SO I DID BOTH!!!

After crying myself to sleep for several hours after seeing the work coming out of Beneath The Mires very own Drone, I have finally gotten my butt into something that almost looked like a gear and made up a Feral Ork buddy for old Captain Dakka!

So there is a bunch left to do on him, the layering and highlights for example, but hes a good start for me.

I'm not a very motivated painter, but when i get in a mood like I am now, I can churn out a model a day to a tournament standard.
I got this guy done in a few hours, but I have to do his base still, its sitting on my warzone like desk at the moment, as I am using it to balance a rather delicate warshrine for my Warriors Of Chaos army.

I'm tempted to give him Warpaint and the like, I'm thinking a crude snake and dagger motif, those Snakebite tattoos from the old school Rogue Trader books really excite me.

So that's it from me for the night, it's 2:32 am and I have a feeling that I'm supposed to do something in the morning with my poor girlfriend who has had to put up with me muttering to myself about how the hell I paint bone. I know it has something to do with earthshade and Deneb stone.

Three is company.

Greetings citizens!
How do we all feel this evening?

So it has been a rather dramatic night in Australian politics and the mood in our fair country is somewhat more "not caring at all" than usual.
Though this isnt really a new feeling, as our political climate is something of an active annoyance, rather than something people really notice.

So despite my own self righteous belief that everyone hangs off my every word, lets get to what you're all here to see, HOBBY!

After the drones recent efforts, I have been jumpstarted in my actions and thrown together the start of a few new crew for my additions to our (hopefully up and coming) games.

I call these 3, The Attitude, The Addict and The Animal.

First up, The Addict.

This guy is the start of what i want to show as a Savlar Chem Dogs sniper, a story for him includes rampant drug use (something those sneaky Savlars excell at!), a chaos incursion, a church full of pious Imperial Citizens and a whole mess of cannibalism!

A little unsure what to throw into his (soon to be present) left arm, but he also needs something in that holster, so I'll have to get a gun in there.

Next up, The Animal.

Imperial Beastmen is a concept that I absolutely LOVE! These poor bastard, given no choice to their genetic makeup, loyal to The Imperium and The throne, but cursed by their appearance.
I always wanted to throw together a crew of them, the thought of them spilling the blood of His enemies in repayment of theirs being tainted...

By the gods, it brings a tear to my eye!

I had to slice up an Ungor for this guy, the original model had the cutest little potbelly, this was something that had to be reproduced! So he got about half a centimetre taller and the belly got greened up!

Im tempted to give him a stubby little tail, almost like a goats. Hahaha, GOATMAN!!!

Last up, The Attitude.

Everyones favorite conversion piece for the last few months, the cultist leader.
Mine got a little mixed up in transit through the warp, the silly bugger thinks hes a Mordian Sergent!
But thats okay, I slapped a uniform on him and am puting him to work against his former comrades!

Im thinking i might put this one forward as the second in command for my band, though I must admit, I am still a little confused as to what sort of crew they will be.

Till next time kids.

Stay safe, stay clean, stay the hell away from Commoragh!

Scum of the Imperium

Just finished this old Necromunda Scumer.

I went for a more traditional 'evy metal style of painting on him to fit in with the rest of my necro stuff (see below). Not sure I like how it turned out. He seems a little dark or missing a spot colour or something. What do you think?

I'm also starting to build up a bit of a took kit of NPC type characters that can be used in various different scenarios. Next, I have plans to sculpt some citizens of the imperium, who will wretched, disheveled fellows that mirror the grinding horror of a galaxy where there is only war. Not warriors, just terrified, common people.

I've also realised that I have all kinds of things to use in special scenarios. It's just a matter of thinking outside the codex box. Like these:
