The Silly Season

Wow, five weeks. That went quick. I've been busy at work and, of course, we've had Christmas in that time so there hasn't been as much hobby as I would have liked but here is what I've been up too.

The four points of SAGA Normans are all done and awaiting a game in January.

I'm happy with the way the turned out given the very little effort that I put into them. They are just base colours with Army Painter over the whole lot and highlighted back. Easy!

I picked up William the Bastard too. Not sure I'll ever use him in a game, depends on how seriously we play it I guess.

Right now I'm working on a new 8x4 games table that I can fold to 4x4 and pack away under the house. All my old high school wood work classes have finally come in handy.

Yeah, that carpet has to go. And soon. It also smells. The joys of buying a house to renovate...

Oh, and I got a new desk lamp after the old one died.

That's about it. Not sure what is next. Maybe Epic again or those Inq28 cultists, though to be honest I'm intimidated by them. I see the amazing stuff in Warhammer: Visions or on the Ammo
Bunker forums and think "holy heck, I can't do that". I did start this stuff with the idea of pushing my painting in new directions so perhaps I should just get on with it!

Game 2: Muties Gone Wild

We played our second full game of Inquisitor today. We're still working out the rules (rules last remember) but I think everybody had fun.

Before the shooting

Sam's ( mechanicus and squat inquisitor and Dean's hillbilly muties duked it out over the right to capture an astropath that had been having strange dreams and prescient visions. Zen and I took control of Astropath Killan and some tank crew under his mind control. In the end the muties dragged the squat, astropath and the mechanicus back to their lair. What they are planning to do with them is best not thought about. (If you have seen Diliverance you'll have a pretty good idea though)

A tanker in the thrall of the astropath Killan advances under the nose of the inquisitor

The muties move in on the mechanicus before he (it?) realises that naval guns are not guns in the belly button or actually all that good.

The next game looks set to be a rescue mission with Sam vowing to bring out the big guns to get back his boys.

Did I miss anything, guys?

If anyone is interested this is the lead up text that I sent out before the game:

My Lord,
I have sent you this message as part of our pre-existing agreement. I hope that it reflects well on me in your eyes and goes some way in redeeming me.

I have been tasked with putting down the vile Quintine backed rebellion on Levant. In that capacity I am in command of the Omer 5/10th Amoured Company. In recent days my informers have been appraising me the strange condition of the units attached astropath. (As I’m sure you know, all Omer regiments now have an astropth assigned by order of the Omer Defence Squad to facilitate a speedy recall in case of another tyranid attack on that world) The astropath in question, Ty Bannor Killan, has been experiencing prescient dreams and is said to be manifesting elements from these in the waking world. His condition is thought to be worsening.

I have ordered the Omer 5/10th, and Killan, away from the fighting and are currently enroute to Bakresh and the off-world port there. At your request I will apprehend Killan and forward him to you.

Your humble servant,

General (primus) Duke Tollmesh Sol of Shile

+++Inq notes+++ My Lord: the rebellion on Levant does not seem to be of Quintine origin. It appears to be an internal Shileite conflict that Sol is not privy to. It could be speculated that the conflict is aimed at Sol himself but, as of yet, there have been no evidence to that effect. The cause of Killan’s disorder is unknown but probably unlinked to the Levantine conflict or our primary quarry. I would advise your Lordship to take up Sol’s offer and take the astropath into our custody. It is surely better that he is destroyed than fall into the Sun’s (or Son’s) hands or worse into the hands of an inquisitorial rival. --KP +++

The scenario had three tankers come on from one table edge with the astropath secretly with one of them. As the players came close to the tankers they made a Sg tests to detect where the astropath was. The tankers by themselves were just taken out of play once he was found.

Terrain. Now with minis!

Evening y'all.

A bit more action on the hobby front at the moment, with A WARBAND ALMOST DONE!!

THere is a bunch of work to do on the greenstuff, nut im pretty happy with the way these guys (and girl and thing) are coming along.

The following are my WIP warband, Name Unknown. I know, it's a rather original title!

There are a pair of inquisitors, In my mind theyre a couple of sorts. The gentleman being an Ordos Hereticus type and his lovely partner being a rather cold Ordos Xenos gal with an unhealthy attatchment to the Dark Eldar.

Update on the muddied ruins.

Nothing too big, just a quick photo update from me today.
Gone and started the paint job and I tell you what, Army Painter leather brown is BRILLIANT for a muddy base.
Not to mention I was able to spray a base coat on a squad of Beastmen Gors at the same time!

It was pretty simple for me here, a black base coat over the whole lot, the leather brown over the muddy aresa and a really thinned down coat of Codex Grey over the building.
The mud received a drybrush of the GW ochre and then followed by a thick drybrush of bleached bone.

The building itself got a thick drybrush of Administratum Grey and then a 50/50 mix of Administratum grey and skull white.
A quick layer of blood red on the Mechanicus cogs and some skull white and leadbelcher on the skull itself. I'll deal with those fiddly wires and details this week.
I also picked out the rubble on the ground with a few quick dabs of the greys, but they all need a lot more work.

But the worst thing about all of this? I snapped the damn sigh I had in the "courtyard" and a bloody Ork is running around....

I named him Larry.

Hope y'all enjoy the update!

Building a battleground. For the glory of The Mire.

Whats going on guys and gals?

I have recently got my butt back into gear and started digging away at the mass of delicious terrain bits and bobs that I have accumulated over the last decade or so of my hobby career and have decided to revive an old project idea of mine that got thrown onto the backburner a while ago.

It all started when some buddies and I got involved with a Necromunda campaign. Now anyone who has played this glorious specialist game before knows just how much of an emotional rollercoaster this game can be. I remember the legitimate fear i felt when I had to roll injuries, the true heartache of losing my first ganger to overwhelming gunfire from an evil pack of Escher and the utter horror I felt when I lost my favorite heavy to the monster in the dark. ( I mean COME ON!!! I had to roll 6 and then 6, that's RIDICULOUS!!)

But the thing I loved most about the campaign was the tables we had set up, I mean it was ALL TERRAIN! The bridges, the barricades and hiding places, by the gods it was glorious.

Look at them, lots of fun terrain right there, but the thing that killed me, none of the stuff that is painted is mine. EL TERRIBLE! Just say that in a bad Spanish accent and you'll know how I felt.

So I have pulled out my bits and sourced as much advice as I can, either via mates in the hobby, some of the awesome plogs on the net and various websites, not to mention the AMAZING work by some of the INQ28 guys throughout the world.

Thats what I am working with at the moment, I gotta admit, it's a lot of inspiration and heartache, but I gotta get through it.

So here is the plan, I wanna get a 4x4 table done by the end of this. For Necromunda and a bit of INQ28 if I me and the boys get the chance. It could probably work for 40k, but I'm not expecting that vehicles would have a very easy time getting around the table in my mind. I plan on doing it 1x1 at a time, a buddy of mine cut up a mess of MDF panels for me, and these things are EXACT!

SO here is a few shots of the piece I have started so far, it's not too much at the moment, but give it a lick of paint and a wash here and there and I reckon I might have something I can play with!

Thanks guys.
